Official Modules

Official modules are written here, kept current with each release of the engine, and checked against all three Rulesets before they ship. When a core rule changes, these change with it.

They are Licensed Material under the ORC License, exactly like the Rulesets, so you may use, modify, and publish commercially without asking.

 

Basic Combat Additive · any Ruleset Attacks, damage, position, defeat Structured conflict built entirely on the Encounter rules the engine already has. Attacks resolve against a Defense, the Gradient decides criticals and grazes, and position is expressed as Favor. Includes weapon templates and a Stabilize action.

Currency & Exchange Additive · any Ruleset Currency, exchange, cost, spend Toolkit for building an economy: three models for money, what each costs, and the three questions to answer before you pick one.

Undertaking Projects Additive · any Ruleset Milestones, pressure, challenges, yield Long work, played rather than narrated past: making, researching, building, training and trade. Four questions, six dials, and one reference build, with the odds for every Ruleset.

   

 

Crediting an official module

You do not need to write a separate credit for each official module you use. Because they are maintained here alongside the engine, naming them in the same breath as Frontiers is enough:

List whichever official modules you used, separated by commas. That single line covers all of them.

This is a compatibility line, not your ORC notice

The box above is how you name the modules you used. It does not satisfy the ORC License on its own. Your published work still needs all four ORC notices, which are set out in full on the License page.

Community modules are different. They carry their own authors, so each one you use needs its own credit line, given on that module's page. See Community Modules.
