Streaming & Video Policy

The whole page in one line

Stream it. Record it. Monetize it. You do not need to ask, and you do not owe anyone a notice.

This page exists because the other two are written for people publishing books, and a streamer reading a license page full of attribution notices and Reserved Material designations could reasonably conclude that any of this is complicated, when for streaming it simply is not.

If you run an actual play, a review channel, a rules explainer, a podcast, or a livestream, this page is the only one you need.

 

The Grant

Frontiers grants a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive permission to reproduce, perform, display, and communicate any Frontiers content in audiovisual and audio media, including commercially.

You may:

  • Run and broadcast actual play using any Ruleset, Starter Set, or Module, live or recorded.
  • Read the rules aloud, in full, on air.
  • Show pages of frontiersengine.dev or its PDFs on screen, share your screen with them open, or cut them into a video.
  • Teach, review, criticize, praise, dissect, or complain about the system, in whatever tone you like.
  • Build character sheets, overlays, macros, VTT setups, cheat sheets, and other production assets for your own show, and show them on air.
  • Set anything you play in the Starter Set worlds, or in your own, or in a mangled hybrid of both.
  • Monetize all of it. Ads, subscriptions, memberships, Patreon, tips, sponsorships, paid VOD, compilation releases, and anything else. No royalty, no revenue share, no threshold, no reporting.

You do not need to:

  • Ask permission.
  • Include an ORC notice, an attribution notice, or any license text on screen or in your description.
  • Register, sign up, or tell Frontiers you exist.

 

You may use the Frontiers logo and wordmark to identify the system you are playing: in overlays, stream scenes, thumbnails, episode art, channel art, and descriptions.

Two conditions, the same two as everywhere else on this site: do not alter the logo, and do not use it in a way that presents your show as an official Frontiers production. Naming Frontiers as what you are playing is exactly right; naming it as who is producing you is the part that oversteps.

Starter Set logos may be used the same way, to identify which one you are running.

 

Credit

Credit is appreciated and not required. If you want to give it, a line in the description is plenty:

That is the whole of the ask, and nothing happens if you skip it.

 

Where This Stops

This permission covers performance and commentary, media where the content is play, teaching, discussion, or review.

It does not, by itself, cover publishing the rules as a text product: a PDF, a book, a supplement, a paid rules document, a VTT module distributed to other people. That is still welcome, still free, and still commercial, it just goes through the ORC License instead, which is where the notice requirements live.

The line is roughly: if your audience is watching or listening, you are here. If your audience is downloading something to run their own game from, you are on the License page.

 

Takedowns

Frontiers will not issue a takedown against a stream, video, or podcast over a negative review, an unflattering opinion, a house rule, or a misreading of the rules. Play it wrong on purpose if it is funnier.

 

Why This Is a Separate Page

The ORC License governs copyright in the rules and requires notices from anyone using them. Under Section V.a of that license, a Licensor may also offer the same material under separate terms. This page is such an offer: it runs alongside the ORC License rather than modifying it, so that streaming and video work carries none of the notice obligations that a published product does.

If you would rather rely on the ORC License instead, you may. It grants everything above as well, and only asks for the notices in return.
